Maquette for anti-statue 4: Crocodile

A line from Shelley’s Mask of Anarchy:

‘Next Hypocrisy on a crocodile rode by’

finds its place on an obelisk (Cleopatra needle) to mark a common characteristic of self-regarding life lived in public. The poem follows the massacre of working people by soldiers at St Peter’s Green in Manchester in 1819. A statue to a characteristic perhaps?
