Auden text

'If Shapes Can So To Their Own Edges Keep', can be read anti-clockwise from the bottom line.

A collaboration with Jackson Fawkes glass engravers and cast glass specialists. Deeply engraved marks on the edges of the tall cast column ‘bleed’ and move across the face of the glass as one walks around it. Auden’s line, ‘If shapes can so to their own edges keep’ (from ‘Objects’ 1959) is appropriate.

The quotation, worked to the point of abstraction, sees the letters barely keeping to their own shapes.

This is in a private collection in York. Auden was born in York.
